devastating on the one hand...

Well, readers of many Melbourne blogs will know that we are experiencing some EXTREME weather at the moment.
Last night we pulled the plug on the Lunacy Park birthday party which was scheduled to happen on Sat'dy. Poor Pepper was so very upset, it broke my heart. But I couldn't bear the thought of us all EXPIRING in the 43 degree heat, being buffetted by sweltering north easterly winds.
I rang around the invitees and everyone is happy to prolong the suspense for another week.
The only sweetener to the dud deal was the thought of a YumCha to celebrate my Mum's birthday on Sunday morning! Yum yum.
The cloud has blown off and the skies are brilliant blue for today so lets get that washing on the line!
Can I also add that Mackie has had the most wonderful first week at HIGH SCHOOL. I am so proud of him and his cheery attitude and his general bonza 'can-do' outlook this week. His is growing up and so far I LOVE it!

timing is everything

Pepper is having a party on Saturday. The date was set a month ago when she realised that we would be camping. There are 7 little angels coming to enjoy an afternoon at Lunacy Park.
Have you seen the weather forecast for Saturday?
43 degrees!!!
We will be praying for an early cool change. She won't hear of rescheduling it.
I just hope that no one melts, faints or otherwise flakes it. We'll be catching the tram down there to avoid parking dilemmas...that's if the trams are running and not exploding.
Here are the fimo beads that we made on the weekend to fashion into handmade bracelets to put into the party bags. She got to use a v.v.sharp knife to slice them up. It was fun.

cool change

Kids go back to school on Monday.
Usually I am feeling very excited and relieved to see them head off. This year Mackie starts Year 7 and I admit I am feeling a little bit sad as I say goodbye to my Primary School kid and welcome a High School kid.
I have charged myself with the task of restoring order in the house and hopefully in the minds of the family in readiness for this big transition.
They have gone to the movies.
There's washing, vacuuming, mopping and shopping to be done which we have allowed to slide on account of the frickin' hot weather.
There's dog fluff blowing up and down the hallway. There is mud all through the house thanks to the next-doors demolition fest and bucketing water out of the bath onto the poor pathetic vegies.
We have been living on beer and fish n chips. Feeling pretty crap on that front.
There is still debris from the camping trip littering the house which really makes me feel disorganised, but who can be bothered climbing the ladder to put things away or squeezing lilos under the bed? Not me.
As you can see I'm procrastinating at the moment. Washing is ready for the line and the juicer is beginning to fester on the bench after this morning's juice.
At least all the school books are labelled and Mackie's new uniform is ironed for possibly the only time this year. Got the school shoes yesterday and I'm wondering how "thong boy" will cope with the unaccustomed rigidity of shoes and life in general in the upcoming days.
Cheers everyone. Enjoying that southerly breeze? I am.

bloody stinking bloody hot

FFFRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!It's very hot.
Our house is super for days 1 through 3, brick at the front, some pretendy stuff at the back.
But now it is fricking boiling and I am terrified that we are all going to lose our minds over the next couple of days of 43 degree weather.
D is up in the ceiling fixing the phone connection that the next door neighbours knocked out during their demolition frenzy on the weekend. It's a bit hot up there. I just had a little poke up through the man-hole. It's mainly hot because there is no roof any more. No tiles and no ceiling in the adjoining house, just a big big hole and empty grundgey space where a house once was. I'm pretty glad that they have finished with the hammer drill/knocking out internal walls which they did throughout the entire long weekend. They are nice folks and I'm sure if we survive their renovation, then we'll all be great neighbours.
I have become very keen on checking where my visitors are coming from by looking at the LIVE FEED thingamy on my blog. If I didn't have it, I would think thatNO ONE ever came to visit.
We're thankfully not on fire. This photo is from last year's trip home from camping!

IT'S TOO GODDAMN HOT

I wasn't going to even turn on the computer today. I want to get in a cold bath and wallow.
But I have been wanting to share these photos of our very unusual globe markings for a while.
I guess the globe is made in China and certainly has a fair bit of Chinese writing on it, but the wonderful thing I love is this labelling in red which seems to denote some other-worldly climatic events. Check it out. I've got to pick the ratbags up from school now. Ooooh they WILL be in good moods, fresh & chirpy...not.
I am at my "limit of heat", but hopefully do not yet have "grain in ear"
