On Sunday, that's yesterday, we went to celebrate the 2nd birthday of a little friend.
I habitually take a cake to gatherings with these lovely friends.
I like to think of them as my guinea pigs!
So I used fresh pears from their own tree and made a pear upside down cake.
The recipe is very easy and is to be found in Jill Dupleix's New Food cookbook.
You can substitute any fruit really.
The most time consuming bit is making the toffee which you lay the fruit into before adding cake batter and baking. It was certainly delicious and earned me beloved brownie points as chief cake supplier forevermore.

Oh yum! That looks divine! If only we hadn't just polished off the last of the home grown pears. Oh well, it's one to remember for next year.
